Maggie Cheers Athletes to State Meet Gold
Thousands athletes in the Sunflower State are on a quest to compete in the 2014 Kansas State Track and Field Championships, to be held May 30-31 at Wichita's Cessna Stadium.
Cheering them on is storybook track star Maggie Steele, a gutsy farm girl from Grain Valley, Kan.
The high school heroine's rise over tragedy and an ever-rising pole-vault crossbar is captured in the novel, Maggie Vaults Over the Moon.
According to author Grant Overstake, the story is a tribute to the thousands of real-life Kansas athletes striving to qualify for the State Meet, as they have for more than 100 years.
"Maggie Steele represents every Kansas high school athlete who is doing all they can every day to make it to State in any sport," Overstake said. "It will inspire anyone who dreams of becoming a champion."
The novel has been praised by US Olympians and coaches for its inspirational message. The highest praise has come from athletes, coaches, and officials from Kansas, who've experienced the excitement and thrills of the largest track and field meet in the nation.
“Maggie’s inspirational story will make anyone feel like they can accomplish their dreams," says Taylor Swanson, a former Kansas State pole-vault champion. "It's a must read no matter what sport you participate in."
Maggie Vaults Over the Moon was featured in the May 2013 issue of the Kansas State High School Activities Journal, with an endorsement from the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA): "Maggie Vaults Over the Moon captures the true meaning of a high school athlete in Kansas and the opportunities activities can create for young people."
Maggie Vaults Over the Moon can be purchased in paperback and downloaded on ebook from Amazon.com.
