Maggie Celebrates Banner Year at Texas Pole Vault, Home of Top Teen Desiree Freier
FORT WORTH, TEXAS -- It's been a banner year at Texas Pole Vault at EliteSportz, home of Desiree Freier, who became the greatest teen vaulter in US history.Recently, a group of campers received outstanding instruction at the club and were awarded copies of the novel, Maggie Vaults Over the Moon. The club earned a Maggie banner for its role as a major sponsor for the campaign to help narrator Tavia Gilbert perform and produce the story on audiobook.

The novel has been endorsed by Olympic athletes and coaches for its positive message to young people, including Coach George Rodriguez, head coach at Texas Pole Vault at EliteSportz.Texas Pole Vault at EliteSportz has a rich history of success in the Lone Star State. Its brightest star is the top teen pole-vaulter in US history, Desiree Freier. After setting national high school and junior records this past season, Desi topped off her senior year in high school by placing second at the IAAF World Junior Championships, held last month in Eugene Oregon. Her vault of 4.45 meters (14-7.25) would have won the NCAA women's national championship this past year!
Freier’s sky-high trajectory is the product of lots of hard work and great coaching from her father, George Rodriguez and his son, Devin Rodriguez. They’ve coached her at Texas Pole Vault since she picked up a pole in the 8th grade, and promptly soared to 10-9! Now a freshman at the University of Arkansas, Desi's goals are to help the Razorbacks win championships, and to earn a spot on the 2016 US Olympic Team. We look forward to following her skyward.
In addition to Freier, Texas Pole Vault also launched Lakan Taylor, now vaulting for the University of Alabama, and Zoe McKinley, who vaulted with Freier on the USA Youth National Team. The coaching staff at Texas Pole Vault is serious about helping vaulters of all skill levels jump higher. In fact, the Rodriguez family has a collective family PR of over 70 feet! George vaulted 16-6; Devin 17-0; Jeffrey 17-8.25; and Desiree 14-7.25.

Texas Pole Vault at EliteSportz was established in the late 1990’s when Devin started vaulting in the 7th grade. The foundation for the club was established in part by Coach Mike Lawryk of Vertical Assault in Pennsylvania, who spent a few months at the fledgling club. Lawryk shared his view and methodology of the vault with George, who has applied it to all phases of the club.
In 2004, George was honored to be invited as a clinician to the Girls Junior Olympic Elite Development Camp at the United State Olympic Center in Chula Vista, CA. Today, Texas Pole Vault at EliteSportz has trained more State Qualifiers than any other club in Texas!
