Olympian's Parents Inspire Future Track Stars With 'Maggie'

Author Grant Overstake scratched his head when a shipping invoice showed multiple copies of Maggie Vaults Over the Moon had been sent to Festus, Missouri.

The mystery was solved when he discovered to his delight that the order had been placed by Richard and Laura Borman -- longtime track coaches and parents of champions.

“Maggie Vaults Over the Moon was one of the best books we have ever read as a family," Laura explained. "We were so captivated by the plot that we bought copies for members of our youth track team, the Jefferson County Jets Track Club, and for our friends. We are looking forward to Grant’s next book!”

This came as awesome news for the author, because the Borman family knows a thing or two, or three about track and field: 1. Their oldest daughter, Brittany, graduated from the University of Oklahoma and was a two-time NCAA Javelin Champion. This past year she won the US Olympic Trials and competed at the 2012 London Olympic Games. She is married to former UCLA hammer thrower, Boldizsar Kocsor.2. Danielle, their middle daughter, is a sprinter and jumper for Park University which is a NAIA school in Kansas City, Mo.3. Their youngest daughter, Breanne, is a promising freshman heptathlete at Wichita State University.Together, the Bormans have been on a track and field journey as a family since 1995."They represent the best of the track and field community," Overstake said. "They've shown their greatness in the way they've parented and coached their three daughters, and the way they continue to coach aspiring young athletes."Laura, who has been the president of the Jefferson County Jets Track Club for the past seventeen years, also has served as the Ozark AAU and USATF Youth Chair. As the current president of USATF Ozark, she promotes track and field for athletes of all ages.Richard has served as the Jets Track Club coach for the past seventeen years and has also been a volunteer coach with the Festus School District for the past ten years.Certified USATF national officials, the Bormans also own Championship Timing, a full service race management and timing company that specializes in managing championship track and field events.You can find a link to the family's favorite sports novel on the Championship Timing website under the caption, "Looking for a good fiction track and field book for your athlete to read for enjoyment?""I feel honored that the Bormans have endorsed Maggie," Overstake said.
