'Maggie' Soars at Region's No. 1 Bookstore
Boosted by enthusiastic reader recommendations and online sales, the popular teen novel Maggie Vaults Over the Moon continues to soar as a best-seller at Watermark Books & Cafe, the region's No. 1 bookstore.Listed among works by writers such as Khaled Hosseini (The Kite Runner, And the Mountains Echoed), Maggie ranks 10th on the Watermark Books Best-Sellers list as of June 16, 2013. The novel has soared to as high as No. 3 in recent months."It's been amazing and exciting to see how readers of all ages have responded to Maggie," says author Grant Overstake.The story, which features a gutsy Kansas farm girl who overcomes tragedy and soars to new heights as a pole-vaulter, has struck a resounding chord with readers young and old. "We're seeing an exciting ripple effect as readers who love the story are telling their friends about Maggie and buying multiple copies of the book to give away as gifts to inspire young people," he adds.Online sales through the Watermark Books website were given a boost when Maggie Vaults Over the Moon was featured on the front cover of the May issue of the Kansas High School Activities Journal and advertised in the official program of the Kansas State High School Track and Field Championships. The novel also received a boost when it was awarded to top female contestants at the Texas River Vault Championships, held June 15 in San Marcos, Texas.From now through August, the author has pledged to make a donation to the Kansas High School Activities Association Sports Hall of Fame for each copy of Maggie sold at the Watermark store, located at Douglas and Oliver in Wichita, or via the Watermark website.
