Summertime is a great time for pole-vaulting and reading novels about pole-vaulting.Which is why the popular teen novel Maggie Vaults Over the Moon continues to soar as a best-seller at Watermark Books & Cafe, the region's No. 1 bookstore.Maggie vaulted back into the top five at Watermark for the week of July 7, 2013, which came as a pleasant surprise to author Grant Overstake.
"Maggie has been really enjoying her summer attending pole-vault camps and street vaults," the author said. "Of course, she's delighted and thrilled that her book continues to sell so well."The story, which features a gutsy Kansas farm girl who overcomes tragedy and soars to new heights as a pole-vaulter, has struck a resounding chord with readers young and old, especially in the Sunflower State.

Since appearing at Watermark Books in March, the novel has been ranked on its weekly best-seller list several times, vaulting as high as No. 3 shortly after the author's reading and book signing on April 11th, which attracted more than 70 people to the store."It's remarkable to think that out of the hundreds of titles on the shelves at Wichita's premier bookstore, Maggie continues to soar," Overstake said. "I think there's a ripple effect taking place, a word of mouth thing. That's exciting because it means the story is touching readers deeply and they're recommending it to others, which is really cool."Online sales through Watermark Books' website increased after Maggie was featured on the front cover of the May issue of the Kansas High School Activities Journal and advertised in the official program of the Kansas State High School Track and Field Championships.
The novel received another boost when it was awarded to top female contestants at the Texas River Vault Championships, held June 15 in San Marcos, Texas; and when it received a positive Sunday Review from noted Kansas author Tracy Million Simmons, author of the new Kansas-based novel, Tiger Hunting.From now through August, Overstake has pledged to make a donation to the Kansas High School Activities Association Sports Hall of Fame for each copy of Maggie sold at the Watermark store, located at Douglas and Oliver in Wichita, or via the Watermark website.
